When or where do you feel most like yourself?

1) In my classroom, joking with kids and checking in on them like a mother hen. I’m now old enough to be their mother but oddly enough I feel like I can relate to / empathize with them more. I am not super tough and do not inspire fear with just a look. I used to think that was the goal, but now I am more focused on helping students let go of their fear of asking questions, of math, or of being themselves too.

2) In my kitchen, cooking with reruns of one of my favorite shows playing in the background. Bonus is if it is for a brunch, lunch, or dinner we are hosting. Though I consider myself an introvert, I feel like myself when I cook for others. A friend told me that my “love language” must be hosting / providing for others.

3) Putting together a jigsaw puzzle, organizing a room, or sorting things. This is probably because of my need to have things in order or to always keep busy.

I love and appreciate that you are working on helping your students feel comfortable asking questions. I feel like that shapes their future. I know a lot of people who are afraid of asking questions and I bet it all started while they were young! They don’t want to be seen as “dumb” or “wrong”.
